Dr. Arthur W. Struempler dedicated 26 years to Chadron State College. For 15 years he served as chairman of the Division of Science and Mathematics, with his final 11 years teaching chemistry, his true passion. Art used the geographical uniqueness of northwestern Nebraska for his research laboratory and playground. His internationally published environmental research included radon, uranium, and water quality issues. He gained equal enjoyment from the land through his discovery of museum-quality fossils and the 1982 “world class” Bayard Meteorite. Art was a WWII veteran and flew 26 missions as a B-17 pilot. Following his military service he received a doctorate from Iowa State University. Dr. Struempler believed that “education was a person’s meal ticket for life.” Hence, it seems only fitting that he continues to “fee” future students through this endowment.
