The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges on Friday approved the implementation of a brand marketing plan developed by a Massachusetts research firm. The board convened at Chadron State College on Thursday and Friday.

The brand marketing plan, designed by Carnegie Communications, consists of items for the Nebraska State College System and individual components for each of its three colleges --Chadron State, Wayne State and Peru State. The plan is designed to increase enrollment and brand recognition of the state colleges.

The board increased tuition an extra one percent in April 2004 to provide the funds to continue the enrollment and marketing initiative. The board’s approval Friday allows the use of those funds for the plan’s implementation.

In other action, the board allocated $332,500 of LB 309 funds to replace the roof on the Nelson Physical Activity Center. Chadron State College will contribute $17,500 to the estimated total project cost of $350,000.

The board also approved shortening the name of Chadron State College’s “Master of Science in Education” degree to “Master of Education.”

Dr. Joyce Hardy, CSC vice president for academic and student affairs, said the name change will not affect the content of the program, but more accurately convey its focus. She said the change will enhance student employment opportunities because the new name is more commonly used by other colleges and universities to reflect the degree’s credentials.

During the board’s dinner Thursday night, Dr. Robert Stack, interim CSC dean of students and former math professor, was presented the Nebraska State College System’s 2003-2004 Teacher of the Year Award which was announced in May.
