About 90 students from Dawes County’s elementary schools participated in Science Day at Chadron State College on Monday. In addition to participating in hands-on science activities created and administered by Chadron State College teacher education students, the children listened to presentations by David Nieves of Bellevue, a children’s book author who travels far and wide to study reptiles and amphibians.

The author and herpetologist gave the children advice about writing and showed them a number of live reptiles.

Nieves also spoke to students at Chadron High School on Monday afternoon and is scheduled to to make a public presentation at the Sandoz Center at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday, Feb. 11). His appearances are being sponsored by the Nekota Reading Council, Chadron State College and the Chadron Public Schools.
